St. Mary's
The very attractive church of St Mary the Virgin stands in the heart of the village, its tower being visible from all approaches. The congregation are warm and welcoming and the principal service is at 11am each Sunday. On the 3rd Sunday of each month, incense is used at the Parish Communion. There is an upper room to which parents and toddlers may withdraw, from which the service can be seen and heard. We would love to see you and wait to welcome you.
Church Open for visitors:- during the Winter and early Spring the church is open on 1st & 3rd Saturday 10am to 12noon then May to October each Saturday 10am to 4pm. Sunday Club The new Sunday Club for children of all ages and was launched in 2009. After meeting in church for the start of the service at 11 am, the Club will go to the Upper Room in church for a story and an activity, coming back in time to go to the communion rail for a blessing. This Club meets on the second Sunday of each month (including August) under the care of the leaders Tracey Whitby, Sally Amner and Jackie Painter. Toddler Praise on the first Wednesday of each month. Parents, grandparents and child minders with their young children meet at St. Mary's at 2.15pm. We have a story, sing songs, play musical instruments and then have a drink and biscuit. We finish at about 3pm. Parents and Toddlers can use the children's area at the back of the north aisle at any time. American Contacts St. Mary's is in regular contact with the Pilgrim John Howland Society of America. John Howland, who married Elizabeth Tilley of Henlow and both sailed on the Mayflower with the Pilgrim Fathers. Please click on John Howland Society for more information. St. Mary's is also in contact with the Pilgrim Henry Samson Kindred that was formed in September 2005. Henry Samson sailed on the Mayflower at the age of 16. He was the son of James and Martha (Cooper) Samson who were married in St. Mary’s on 20 May 1599. Henry was baptised in St. Mary's on 15 January 1604. Wednesday Morning Coffee You will be most welcome to drop-in for coffee and excellent cakes any Wednesday morning at The Gardens in Arlesey Road. They start at about 10.30am and is staffed by adults with learning difficulties in our area. Your support would really encourage them!
