St Mary’s Church has had a robed choir for many years. We are affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music and we sing for the principal service each Sunday morning as well as for special services throughout the year. These include our Patronal Festival service and other Saints’ Days; Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and the Liturgy of Easter Eve; an evening service for Advent Sunday and the service of Nine Lessons and Carols near to Christmas. We also sing at a number of weddings during the ‘season’ and often join with St Andrew’s choir at Langford for Benefice occasions.
Members of St Mary’s Choir take part in the St Albans Diocesan Choir Festival, held every two years, which brings the twofold privilege of singing in our great Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Alban, and joining with the Cathedral’s own choir.
Our repertoire is wide ranging in style and period, from Medieval to the present century. We like to be inclusive!
There is an open invitation for people of any age to join St Mary’s Choir. Choir practice is on Tuesday evening from 7pm to 8pm and, although we work hard, our practice time is enjoyable for all. The principal service on Sunday is at 11am. For more information please contact the Choirmaster, James Burgess F.A.S.C.
